Try Krisp →ZoomMate and My Notes: free uses and the paid plan
ZoomMate is Zoom's AI assistant, formerly called AI Companion, and My Notes is its note-taking feature. ZoomMate Basic comes with Workplace Basic. Zoom says My Notes captures conversations on Zoom, in person, on mobile and across third-party platforms, but Basic allows 3 uses per month, meeting summaries for 3 hosted meetings per month and 40 minutes per meeting.
Paid ZoomMate lists unlimited AI note-taking and 2,200 AI credits a month. Zoom's card leaves open whether a paid Workplace plan is also needed.
Bots in Zoom calls and who admits them
The Krisp Bot, from Core, appears to other participants as a separate participant, and the meeting host must let it in. Once removed, it cannot rejoin that same session. To send it to a call you cannot attend, add it to the calendar invite as a guest.
Otter.ai's notetaker, Fireflies.ai's Fred and Fathom's bot capture also join the meeting. Fireflies.ai says to invite Fred to a live meeting or let it autojoin your calendar meetings.
Capturing Zoom calls with no bot
Krisp works at the audio level on your device, so no bot joins. In Zoom, open Settings, go to the Audio tab and change the microphone and speaker to Krisp. Krisp advises choosing both Krisp Microphone and Krisp Speaker, so the whole call is captured.
Otter.ai says its Mac and Windows desktop app records without bots joining the call, and Fathom offers a bot-free choice in beta on Mac. The guide to note takers without a bot lists all five bot-free options.
Which Zoom user should pick which
- ZoomMate Basic to try AI notes, with 3 My Notes uses a month.
- Paid ZoomMate for a team that meets only on Zoom.
- Krisp for Zoom plus Microsoft Teams and Google Meet, since it works across all three.
- Fathom for a free plan with unlimited recordings and transcriptions. Krisp vs Fathom compares the two.
Krisp's 7-day trial with no credit card required covers Zoom calls through the desktop app. The best AI note taker for teams page sets Zoom beside the other calling apps.
