Best AI note taker for Google Meet: the options

Google Meet's Take notes for me is built in, but it needs an eligible Google Workspace edition or Google AI plan, so a team without one needs a separate tool such as Krisp, Fireflies.ai, Otter.ai or Read AI. Google's Workspace pricing page showed no US dollar price on October 29, 2026, so none is given for it. Krisp Core is $8 per user a month billed annually, or $16 billed monthly.

Take notes for me: editions, languages and who is told

Take notes for me writes meeting notes into Google Docs. After you join a meeting, click Take notes for me at the top right of the screen. Google Meet informs all participants that notes are being taken, and a pencil icon shows on every participant's screen. Participants internal to the host's organization can stop it.

It supports one language at a time and is recommended for meetings of 15 minutes to a maximum of 8 hours. Notes documents follow the Meet retention policy that your organization has configured.

Chrome and desktop capture in Meet

Krisp offers a Chrome extension for meetings held inside Chrome, such as Google Meet, and a desktop app for Windows and Mac. For the app, open Meet's Settings, go to Audio and change the microphone and speaker to Krisp. Krisp notes that some browsers, like Safari, do not let you change the speaker, while Google Chrome does.

Fireflies.ai says its Chrome extension records without its bot, and Otter.ai says its desktop app records without bots joining the call. The Zoom guide makes the same comparison for Zoom.

Consent settings a Workspace admin controls

Google says an administrator may require all participants to give explicit consent before certain meeting features are used. That setting is off by default, and the administrator can choose to turn it on. Where it is on, a participant gives consent by clicking Start to begin a feature, or Join to enter a meeting where one is active.

This is Google's help page, not legal advice. The plain habit is to tell every participant before notes are taken, and AI note taker consent gives the background.

Which Google Meet user should pick which

  • Take notes for me for a team on an eligible Workspace edition that meets in one language.
  • Krisp for a team on several calling apps. A team on Zoom and Google Meet gets the same capture on both. The Krisp AI meeting assistant review has the plans and limits.
  • Fireflies.ai for a Chrome extension that records without its bot.

Krisp's pricing page offers a 7-day free trial with no credit card required, which leaves time to try its Google Meet set-up before a seat is bought.
