What is Krisp AI? A plain language guide to the note taker, noise cancellation and accent tools

What Krisp AI is in plain language: the meeting assistant, how it captures audio without a bot, its parts, its limits and who should use it.

Quick answerKrisp AI is a voice AI company whose AI Meeting Assistant records and transcribes meetings from your own computer, then writes a summary and action items. Its home page says noise cancellation is still core, and the pricing page includes it in every plan. Call Center AI and developer tools are separate products that these guides leave aside.

What is Krisp AI? A plain language definition

Krisp builds voice AI products that make online conversations clearer. Krisp's help center sorts them into three product lines. The AI Meeting Assistant is the one for individuals and teams, and the help center calls it a bot-free AI note taker with noise cancellation. Call Center AI is for contact centers, and Krisp for Developers is for people who put Krisp's voice models inside their own apps. Krisp says the products are separate and installed individually, so installing one does not install the others.

Krisp is known for noise cancellation, and its home page says that is still core but no longer the only thing it does. When people ask what Krisp AI is for a team, the useful answer is the meeting assistant: a desktop and mobile app that turns the audio of a meeting into a transcript, a summary and action items.

How Krisp works: a virtual microphone and speaker

Krisp installs a virtual microphone and a virtual speaker on your computer. In your calling app you choose Krisp Microphone as the input and Krisp Speaker as the output. Because the audio passes through Krisp before it reaches the call, Krisp can remove noise from what you say and what you hear, and the note taker can listen to both sides.

Krisp's home page says that because it works at the audio level, it works with Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Slack Huddles and other calling apps. The help center says an app must support virtual devices and either offer audio settings or accept system-level enforcement. That is why no bot has to join the meeting. It also means the person running Krisp is the one capturing the meeting.

The parts of the AI Meeting Assistant

  • AI note taker: transcript with speaker identification and timestamps, a summary, key decisions and action items, plus AI Chat for follow-up questions.
  • Recording modes: transcript only, audio recording or screen recording, which you choose in the Krisp app. Krisp lists a record-with-bot option too.
  • Noise cancellation: removes background noise and competing voices from both directions of a call and is part of every plan, according to the pricing page.
  • Accent conversion: a separate real-time feature with daily limits by plan. It is not needed to take notes.
  • Languages: the home FAQ says on-device English transcription plus 15 server-based languages, which matches the 16 languages in the help article. The product page says 17.
  • Mobile app and browser extension: the mobile app records in-person or offline conversations, and the FAQ says it does not include noise cancellation yet. A Chrome extension is listed for meetings held inside the browser.
  • Integrations: Krisp lists Slack, Notion, Zapier, HubSpot and other tools on its pricing page.

A workflow for one meeting

Krisp's setup steps are short. Create an account, install the desktop app and connect a calendar. Krisp's FAQ says calendar access is requested by default and that a zero-permission route exists. Select the Krisp devices in your calling app, then turn the note taker on in the Krisp app and pick a mode.

When the meeting ends, the recording, transcript and notes appear on the My Notes page of your Krisp account. For multilingual meetings, Krisp's help article advises audio recording so a transcript can be regenerated if it contains mistakes. The how-to guide puts these steps in a team routine.

What Krisp is not: limits and other products

  • It is not a meeting platform. You still need Zoom, Teams, Meet or another calling app.
  • It is not bot-only. Krisp's default capture has no bot, but it offers one when you want a bot to attend for you.
  • It is not the only bot-free option. Otter, Fireflies and Fathom each describe a way to record without a bot. See Krisp vs Otter AI.
  • It is not legal advice about recording. Krisp's Notify others setting helps you tell participants, but your own rules and local law decide what you must do.
  • Call Center AI and the developer products are separate and outside this site.

Who it is for, and when to use something else

Krisp's own pages list finance, consulting, legal, remote and sales teams as examples. For this site the fit is a manager or founder of a 3 to 20 person team that meets on Zoom, Teams or Meet and wants notes without bots in the call. Use something else if you want a free plan beyond the 7-day trial, if one calling platform covers all your meetings and its built-in notes are enough, or if you only need noise removal. Start with the Krisp review for strengths and limits.
